Cheikh has been Vice Minister of Petroleum and Energy, and Permanent Secretary for Energy in Senegal since January 2021. He was Deputy Permanent Secretary for Energy between January 2018 and January 2021. He also held the position of Senior Manager at Wartsila West Africa from August 2013 to December 2017, where he led activities with national electricity companies in West Africa.
Cheikh coordinated the production and rehabilitation of power plants at the Ministry of Energy from August 2011 to July 2013. He began his career in October 2007 with the French group AREVA NP as a nuclear power engineer, a position he held until July 2011.
Cheikh is an energy engineer and holds a Master’s degree in engineering sciences, technologies and applications. He is also a certified expert of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and coordinator of the national technical committee for the establishment of the nuclear research reactor project in Senegal.
