Jon Marks, Chairman, CbI

marksJon is chairman of Cross-border Information (CbI), guiding the company’s development since its creation in 1989. Jon created the respected African Energy newsletter in 1998 and the African Energy Atlas in 2007. A political scientist with a deep understanding of energy markets and politics, Jon leads on some CbI energy sector consultancy projects, including the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP)’s baseline monitoring programme. Among other roles, Jon has worked in the European Commission, British Parliament and (from 2003 to 2015) as an associate fellow in the Royal Institute of International Affairs’ (Chatham House) Middle East and North Africa Programme; he has assisted numerous parliamentary and governmental committees and advisory panels, and lectured at universities on three continents. A specialist on North African and other Arab politics, as well as African energy industries, Jon has a BA from the University of Kent, Canterbury, an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and carried out doctoral research at the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS).
