Thembani is the Regulator Member primarily responsible for electricity regulation at the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA). His qualifications include: M.Sc. in Mathematics, Science & Technology Education; B.Sc. Electrical Engineering; and Post – graduate diploma in Engineering Business Management.
He started his career at Yelland Engineering in 1989 and joined Eskom in 1994 as an engineer responsible for the commissioning of the extra High Voltage substations. Between 1995 and 1997 he was a test engineer at KEMA-The Netherlands in Arnhem. In 1999 he became the National Performance & Audits Manager of Eskom – Transmission.
Between 2000 and 2006 he was the Managing Director of the following companies: National Electrical Test Facility (NETFA); South Africa Bureau of Standards (SABS) – Testing and Conformity Services; and National Data Systems – Specialised services.
