Mr. Awotwi is a Principal of Africa Power Systems Management, Inc. (“APSM”), a company that provides bespoke management, operational, and technical inputs to optimize the performance of African utility assets.
He is the immediate past Chief Executive of Ghana’s Volta River Authority (“VRA”), Ghana’s state electricity generation utility, generating over 2,200 MW and 100% shareholder of its distribution subsidiary NEDCo, serving 500,000+ customers.
During his four and a half years as CEO, he oversaw unprecedented improvements in VRA’s operational and financial performance. He also completed a $330 million financing to expand a 220 MW thermal plant, built Ghana’s first, grid-connected solar plant; operationalized the Authority’s distribution company; and introduced the use of financial derivatives to purchase its fuel requirements.
He is an original shareholder, co-founder and developer of the 340 MW combined cycle thermal-fired “Cenpower” project, the first project-financed independent power project (“IPP”) in Ghana, that reached financial close in 2014, and is in construction.
Previously, he headed business development and strategic planning for Ashanti   Goldfields Company Limited; and served as Manager, Business Planning & Analysis at   Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation (“Kaiser”), USA.
