North Africa: new markets and new interconnections

The online meeting was held on Monday 13 December 2021.

African Energy founder Jon Marks – a political scientist with a deep understanding of energy markets and the politics of North Africa – together with Managing Director and Senior North Africa Analyst John Hamilton and special guests led a discussion of the region’s power market prospects and the issues investors and developers need to understand to manage the region’s volatile political and security risks.

The meeting examined the opportunities for investors and developers emerging from power generation programmes and surplus electricity production – with schemes ranging from large wind and solar programmes, power interconnection plans with the Middle East, Europe and sub-Saharan Africa and a rapid proliferation of speculative green (and blue) hydrogen schemes.
