Elsie is the Founder of Elcy Investments with its power subsidiary Leadwood Energy; a specialist energy advisory company focused in renewable energy projects. She is also one of the financial transaction advisors to the Government of Kenya on the country’s crude oil prospects.
Elsie is an entrepreneur and energy trader with more than a decade of experience as a physical energy trader for some of the world’s largest trading houses – Goldman Sachs and J.P Morgan – covering markets in coal, emissions, power, natural gas, liquefied natural gas, and crude oil. In 2009, Elsie moved to Houston to assist in the management and optimization of 3000 MW of power generating assets in California. In this role, she collaborated with colleagues to build structural and in-depth technical analyses of North America’s power markets. The business had LNG import rights for up to 2 billion cubic feet per day of gas at the Cheniere Sabine Pass import terminal in Louisiana. Elsie relocated to London in 2012 in order to be more involved in Africa based markets and worked as a physical crude oil trader covering the dated Brent and West African crude oil markets. Elsie relocated to Nairobi to establish Elcy Investments, which comprises of energy focused businesses including Leadwood Energy. She is also an investor in tech businesses in Kenya.
Elsie holds a dual degree in Economics and International Relations from Tufts University and studied Biology at Harvard. She was the recipient of the Tufts Research Scholarship on Effective Development Tools in Microfinance and the Tufts Entrepreneur Award 2008. She also holds a Dean Scholar Award from Richmond, the American University in London. She is also the Co-founder and Board President of a United States 501C3 Charitable Organization – Ekenywa.Org.
