Ashwin joined AIIM in 2010 and is responsible for originating deals, analysing, assessing, structuring and negotiating investment opportunities, as well as the execution, performance monitoring and realisation of investments with the Pan-African investment team.
Ashwin has worked on infrastructure finance deals in the transport, thermal energy and renewable energy sectors, as well as assisting in the management of existing assets. Most recently, Ashwin led investment of AIIM Fund’s into BBOXX Kenya, Rwanda and DRC, one of the leading solar home system operators in East Africa, as well as Albatros Energy Mali power station, the first IPP in Mali. Other notable transactions include AIIM Hydroneo, a hydropower development platform; Cenpower IPP power project in Tema Ghana; Cookhouse Wind Farm in South Africa and REISA SA Solar PV investment, also in South Africa.
Ashwin represents the AIIM funds as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of BBOXX Rwanda, BBOXX DRC, Beyond Energy Investments, Albatros Energy Mali, AIIF3 Clean Energy and Mercury Power.
Prior to joining AIIM, Ashwin spent eight years with Aurecon, a consulting engineering firm, providing project development services and support to project sponsors in the infrastructure, energy and water sectors. Before joining Aurecon, Ashwin spent two years in the UK working for Thames Water in project management and management systems implementation and review.
Ashwin holds a B.Sc Honours and MBA degree from the University of Cape Town.
