Leonard is the Market Engagement Manager for the GSMA-supported Mobile for Development Utilities Programme for Africa (M4D Utilities). The Utilities programme aims to unlock commercially sustainable business models that leverage mobile networks, infrastructure and payment systems to deliver affordable and improved access to energy, water and sanitation for the underserved. Leonard manages grants for the innovation fund in Africa and also mobile operator engagement.
Prior to joining GSMA, Leonard worked as the East Africa Regional Analyst for Telecoms & IoT at International Data Corporation (IDC). Leonard has worked with telecoms companies in consulting, research and advisory projects focusing on a variety of topics such as IoT, mobile money, broadband strategies, competitive analysis, opportunity assessments and Go-To market strategies.
He has also worked as a grantee mentor short term consultant for Ushahidi under the Making All Voices Count Programme, helping start-ups receive funding, and has worked at Toyota and @iLabAfrica – Strathmore.
Leonard holds a MSc Degree in Mobile Telecommunication and Innovation and a BSc in Business Information Technology, both from Strathmore University, Kenya.
