Obbie is an insurance professional, experienced in general, political risk, and trade credit insurance. His background spans various key areas, including underwriting, claims, and project management. In his current role with the African Trade & Investment Development Insurance (ATIDI), Obbie manages several renewable energy sector initiatives and ATIDI’s wider power and renewable energy portfolio – in addition to other underwriting functions.

Since joining ATIDI (formerly known as the African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI)) in June 2018, Obbie successfully oversaw the utilisation of a Technical Assistance grant facility of EUR 1.3m from the KfW Development Bank, and spearheaded extensive engagement efforts that resulted in a grant of NOK 500m (USD 56m) from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the simultaneous development, marketing, and successful implementation of three renewable energy sector initiatives developed by ATIDI, with the support of multiple European Development Finance Institutions: the Regional Liquidity Support Facility (RLSF), the African Energy Guarantee Facility (AEGF) and the Transparency Tool. RLSF and AEGF have, since 2020, supported landmark power projects in Burundi, Kenya, Malawi and Uganda – enabling USD 201m in total project financing.
