Johan spent 20 years with Sasol, initially in the mining division and from 1995 as Project Director, Natural Gas. He was responsible for the Pande and Temane development contracts between Sasol, the Mozambican and the South African governments, and the finalisation of Sasol’s investment in the $1 billion Mozambican natural gas project.
Since 2004 he has been Chairman of the Matola Gas Company (MGC) in Mozambique, supplying gas to more than 30 industries, vehicle filling points and two power stations. MGC is the second-largest gas transmission, distribution, and trading company in Southern Africa.
He is also the Director of Gigawatt Mozambique, an independent power producer that commissioned a $ 200 million, 120 MW, natural gas power station at Ressano Garcia in Mozambique in December 2015.
He represents MGC and Gigajoule International on the steering committee of Beluluane Gas Company that is in partnership with TotalEnergies and who are developing the LNG import terminal in Matola, Mozambique.
