Dr. Eng. John Mativo works as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer in the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO). His overall mandate in KETRACO is to plan, design, construct and maintain high voltage transmission infrastructure in Kenya. John has previously been directly responsible formulating new high voltage transmission infrastructure, resource mobilisation, safeguards and carrying our result-based Monitoring & Evaluation of ongoing and completed projects.
John is a Consulting Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya and a Certified Public Private Partnership Professional. He has more than twenty-five years cumulative working experience in both the public and private sector accumulating extensive experience in planning, resource mobilisation, design, construction supervision and contract management.
John is key in the formulation and implementation of the first Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects in Kenya. KETRACO has six transmission infrastructure projects, with a value of USD 1.1 billion, at project development stage and five others at EOI for transition advisory stage. In 2024, John will roll out transmission infrastructure projects worth USD 250 million under African Development Bank, Korea EDCF, World Bank and KfW funding. Under the 2023-2042 Transmission Master Plan, KETRACO plans to implement 8,000km of high voltage lines and associated substations.
