Michael is a renewable energy and climate finance professional with many years of experience managing investments in emerging markets. He is the lead investment adviser to the £5.8bn International Climate Fund (ICF) at the UK’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS).  Prior to joining BEIS he established the renewable energy business at responsAbility Investments AG, a development-sector fund manager headquartered in Zurich.  responsAbility is the investment manager of the Global Climate Partnership Fund, which includes BEIS among other cornerstone investors.

Michael previously worked for African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM), originally a joint venture between Macquarie and Old Mutual, and before that ran Lloyds Bank’s renewable energy business for continental Europe, out of the Netherlands and London.  Having started his career at BP, Michael went on to work as a project financier at City institutions such as Schroders, Bank of America and Credit Suisse First Boston, before moving into the infrastructure and energy fund sector.  He has civil engineering degrees from the University of Cape Town and Imperial College, and an MBA from Insead.
